Kimi Ora Fundraising

 

​Every student in the Kimi Ora Unit is ORS funded and this funding allows Papanui High School to employ our specialist teachers and support staff as well as our team of specialists who work with our students.  

 

What is ORS?
The Government funds schools to provide extra support for children with special education needs through ORS (Ongoing Resourcing Scheme). These services are funded by the Government and are free.

HOWEVER, there can be additional costs for many of our families throughout the school year. There are wonderful extra opportunities for individual students to take part in out-of-school programmes eg. at CPIT (Chch Polytech) and CTC (Canterbury Tertiary College, a partnership between CPIT and local secondary schools), but these can come at a cost.

 

Our annual Kimi Ora Camp is another additional expense for all students.  Despite the ongoing generous support from Pak 'n Save Northlands, who have donated all the food (for more than 60 teachers and students) for the last 2 years, the expenses can still be considerable for some families.

 

There are other areas too where we find ourselves continually fundraising for extra dollars in order that our students can take part eg. the Special Olympics, Outward Bound.

In 2014 we would like to be in a position to replace the Kimi Ora van.  Our aging Kimi van needs to be replaced!  Watch this space!
